On September 7, 2026, the GAMM Chapter Magdeburg was invited by our colleagues from Braunschweig for a professional exchange.
Blessed with excellent weather, the joint afternoon began with a tour of the TU Braunschweig campus.
Afterwards, over coffee and cake, both chapters presented their current research and projects.
The unique challenge for all the scientists involved: a maximum speaking time of five minutes!
Following stimulating technical discussions and a varied afternoon, the group headed out for pizza together.
In a relaxed atmosphere, the conversation continued—ranging from philosophical musings to discussions about the future.

The GAMM Student Chapter Magdeburg held a workshop specifically focused on the topic of “clean coding.” The workshop centered on developing a clean and structured codebase—an aspect that is virtually indispensable for efficient and sustainable scientific work today.

Particular attention was paid to the readability, long-term usability, and maintainability of code, as well as to the development of efficient and clear code structures. The goal was to deepen existing programming skills while also learning new approaches to professional and sustainable software development.

To this end, the GAMM Student Chapter Magdeburg organized a workshop on August 12, 2026, led by Dr. Thomas Wilde, which generated significant interest within the chapter. With more than two decades of experience in software development, Dr. Wilde was able to provide valuable insights into proven methods and strategies.

Thanks to the workshop’s hands-on format, participants had the opportunity to specifically expand and refine their existing programming skills. The focus was not only on technical aspects but also, in particular, on the question of how code can be designed to remain understandable, robust, and efficient over the long term.

The GAMM Student Chapter Magdeburg would like to thank Dr. Thomas Wilde for the insightful workshop and the valuable ideas, which will certainly be applied in future projects as well.
